A 31-year-old Selma man now faces two counts of capital murder after a shooting victim died from her injuries five days after being shot multiple times in Montgomery.
Daniel Vincent’s charges were upgraded from attempted murder following the death of Jessica Money, who succumbed to her injuries on May 23. The shooting occurred on May 18 at approximately 9 a.m. in the 6300 block of Xenia Street in Montgomery, where Money was struck by three gunshot wounds.
The presence of two children during the incident led prosecutors to pursue capital murder charges against Vincent. Under Alabama law, capital murder charges can be applied when a killing occurs in the presence of minors, making this a particularly serious case in terms of potential penalties.
Law enforcement responded swiftly to the shooting, locating and apprehending Vincent on Atlanta Highway the same day as the incident. Following his arrest, Vincent was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he remains in custody without bond due to the severity of the charges.
The investigation uncovered that the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the morning attack. Initially treated at a local hospital, Money fought for her life for five days before ultimately succumbing to her injuries. The medical examiner’s findings contributed to the decision to upgrade the charges from attempted murder to capital murder.
The case has drawn significant attention from local law enforcement and community members, particularly due to the circumstances involving children at the scene. Montgomery Police Department’s investigation continues as they work to establish all details surrounding the fatal shooting.
Montgomery authorities are proceeding with the prosecution, focusing on the two capital murder counts that replaced the original attempted murder charge. The presence of children during the commission of the crime adds a layer of legal complexity to the case, potentially affecting both the prosecution’s strategy and possible sentencing outcomes.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s office is preparing to present evidence supporting the capital murder charges, which carry the most severe penalties under Alabama law. As the case moves through the judicial system, investigators continue to gather additional evidence and statements related to the May 18 incident that ultimately claimed Jessica Money’s life.
